At Ernst & Young, we believe a diverse college campus prepares students for an inclusive work environment and is critical to success in today’s global economy.

We are excited to launch the 2010 Ernst & Young Inclusive Excellence Award for Accounting and Business School Faculty to honor accounting and business school faculty members who have had a significant impact on diversity and inclusiveness within the business school.

This site will help you learn more about the details of the award and allow you to submit your nomination. Remember, all nominations are due by May 17th.

Part 1
Deadline: May 17, 2010

Award details

  • Five finalists nationwide will be selected to receive $7,500 each to be used towards one of the following:
  1. Impact inclusiveness and diversity at the business school
  2. Fund research currently being conducted by the faculty member
  3. Fund travel to events or conferences regarding diversity or inclusiveness, including student recruiting
  • Finalists will receive recognition in school newspapers and other potential venues.
  • Finalists will be selected and announced in the summer of 2010.

Eligibility & restrictions

  • Faculty members must be full-time active faculty within the school of business and in good standing.
  • Additional eligibility requirements will be asked of finalists to ensure they have no direct family or business relationships with Ernst & Young and our clients.
  • Winners from the 2009 cycle are not eligible for nomination.  However, nominees from the 2009 cycle who were not ultimately awarded are still eligible for nomination.

Judging criteria

Nominations will be evaluated on the following:

  • The faculty member’s contribution to building inclusive excellence in the business school community, through demonstration of one or more of the following categories:

1. Commitment and accountability in the business school and university

  • Active in creation and execution of campus or business school diversity and inclusiveness strategic plan
  • Engages various campus constituencies to effect change

2. Diverse student recruitment and retention in the business school

  • Active in the University’s recruiting efforts
  • Strives to increase the career and personal development opportunities for under-represented and under-served students
  • Active in diverse business organizations such as NABA, ALPFA, Ascend, or an LGBT or disabilities organization

3. Diverse faculty recruitment and retention in the business school

  • Actively involved in recruiting and retaining diverse PhD candidates in the accounting department and the business school
  • Actively involved in recruiting and increasing the number of  diverse  faculty members
  • Provides significant mentorship and support to increase the number of tenure-track faculty members

4. Curriculum and learning

  • Cultivates a global mindset  through innovative teaching and program development
  • Creates and sustains an inclusive classroom or learning environment
  • Seeks out opportunities to incorporate diversity and inclusiveness into the curriculum
  • Number of nominations as an indicator of the nominee’s impact on the campus community. Multiple nominations for a candidate from different members of the campus community are encouraged.
  • The quality of the recommendation, which should include specific examples of how the faculty member demonstrates inclusive excellence at their business school.

Nomination guidelines & restrictions

  • At US schools, freshman, sophomores, juniors, seniors and 5th year Master’s degree students are eligible to nominate a faculty member.
  • Each nomination must be submitted online via our Ernst & Young website: www.ey.com/us/FacultyInclusiveAward
  • Each nominator must submit a separate nomination for each faculty member. Entries which include text from multiple nominators are not encouraged.
  • It is recommended that each nomination be distinct and personalized. We do not recommend multiple individuals using the same essay text for their nominations of a single faculty member.
